Global Talent Visa Endorsement

Global Talent Visa endorsement is basically official recognition that you are a leader or potential leader in your field like tech, research, or arts. Without it, most people cannot apply for the visa.

Science, technology, culture, and arts leaders and promising individuals can come to the UK on a Global Talent visa. It allows flexibility for you to advance your field in Britain.

Get help with the two-stage application process by contacting Manchester Immigration Lawyers today at 0161 826 9783, or visit us online to learn more about our immigration services.

What is Global Talent Visa Endorsement?

Global Talent visa endorsement is the official support you need from an expert body in your field before you can apply for the Global Talent visa itself. Rather than a Home Office caseworker deciding whether you are a leading architect, scientist or fashion designer, that judgement is left to an approved organisation that is familiar with the field. This matters because it means the standard you are judged against is a genuinely professional one, set by people who work in your industry, not a general immigration test.

You will apply under one of two standards. If you are already established as a leader in your profession, that is Exceptional Talent. If you are earlier in your career but already displaying promise, that is Exceptional Promise.

Getting endorsed means you can then start the visa application, which is assessed separately by UK Visas and Immigration once your endorsement letter has been issued.

However, if you have won a prize on the Home Office’s list of prestigious prizes, you do not need to apply for endorsement at all and can make an application directly.

Requirements for a Global Talent Endorsement Application

Every field has its own endorsing body and its own evidence requirements, so there is no one-size-fits-all checklist, and it depends on which field you are applying under.

    Architecture Endorsement

Architecture applications sit within the Arts Council England. However, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) does the actual assessment on the Council’s behalf.

You will need a track record of architectural excellence built over the past five years, evidenced by a CV and three letters of recommendation from architecture organisations or well-recognised experts in your specific field.

Going for Exceptional Talent means your work already needs to speak for itself among your peers. Exceptional Promise gives you more room if you are earlier in your career, as long as you can show real distinction rather than simply competent work.

    Arts and Culture Endorsement

This is the broadest of the creative fields, taking in performers, curators and artists working across the performing, presented, distributed and exhibited arts, and Arts Council England assesses it directly.

For Exceptional Talent, you will need international recognition, ideally across at least two countries, backed by a CV and three letters of recommendation, at least one from a UK-based organisation. Exceptional Promise sits at an earlier stage, so you are showing potential and a developing track record rather than an established reputation.

    Design Industry Endorsement

Design Industry only became its own endorsement route on 1 July 2026. Before that, designers had to squeeze their applications into the broader Arts and Culture field.

The Design Business Association (DBA) now assesses applications for Arts Council England, covering everything from graphic, brand, product and industrial design through to service design and design foresight. What matters here is impact: commercial success, international exhibitions, press coverage or industry recognition, again backed by a CV and three letters of recommendation.

As the DBA’s remit is fairly specific, it is worth double-checking your discipline fits before you apply, since work closer to fine art or craft might need a different route entirely.

    Film and Television Endorsement

This field leans heavily on Pact, the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, and its Notable Industry Recognition Awards list feeds directly into how applications get assessed.

For Exceptional Talent, a major award win, an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe or Emmy, is the strongest evidence, though a run of nominations, a significant contribution to award-winning work, or recognition across two or more productions can also make your case. Exceptional Promise is judged on trajectory rather than trophies.

Both routes need a CV and three letters of recommendation from film and television organisations.

    Fashion Design Industry Endorsement

Arts Council England is the formal endorsing body, with the British Fashion Council (BFC) handling the practical assessment. You will need to hold a genuinely leading design role within a fashion business and demonstrate regular professional engagement over the past roughly five years. If you are applying under Exceptional Promise, taking part in a recognised development scheme, Fashion East, the Sarabande Foundation, the Centre of Fashion Enterprise or a BFC programme, can help strengthen your case.

    Digital Technology Endorsement

Tech Nation endorses this field, covering both the technical and business sides of digital technology, from engineers and product leads to founders and senior executives.

You will need to show genuine innovation or measurable technical or commercial impact, or, if you are more research-focused, a contribution to the field through published work. References carry real weight here, as you will need three detailed letters, each from someone who has known your work for at least twelve months.

Science, engineering, humanities, social science and medicine fields endorsement

Four bodies share this field between them, depending on your discipline: UK Research and Innovation, the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Academy.

You will need to be an active researcher, whether in academia, industry or government, but there is no single checklist here. Instead, applications go through one of two routes: Full Peer Review or Fast Track.

    Full Peer Review Endorsement

This is the standard route if you cannot point to an existing marker of standing. You will need a PhD, or research experience recognised as equivalent, plus a letter from an eminent UK-based individual who can speak to your standing in the field.

For Exceptional Talent, you will also need a second letter, this one from a senior figure at a respected UK research or innovation organisation.

    Fast Track Endorsement

Fast Track is for researchers who already have something concrete to point to, so you can skip full peer review. You will qualify if you hold, or held within the last five years, a recognised fellowship or award, or if you are taking up an academic or research post at an approved UK institution, or if you are hosted or employed by a UKRI-approved organisation on a grant worth at least £30,000 running for two years or more.

Because the credential already exists, this route is usually quicker to assemble than a full peer-review case.

Endorsing Bodies for Global Talent Visa

    Overview

You will need to make an endorsement application if you have not won a relevant prestigious prize. The main endorsing bodies are listed below:

    • Arts Council of England.
    • The Royal Society.
    • Royal Academy of Engineering
    • The British Academy.
    • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
    • Tech Nation.

Each of these bodies has a different endorsement application process and eligibility requirements, as detailed in the following sub-sections:

Royal Society England, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, and UKRI

You will need support from one of these endorsing bodies if you want to come to the UK to work in the natural and medical sciences. Examples include engineering, physics, and biology.

If you have a research appointment with a UK institution, you’ll need to show that you will be directing individual or group research or be responsible for academic or innovation leadership. You will need to provide a job description that shows you will have these responsibilities. A statement attesting to this from the institution’s human resources director is also important.

An individual fellowship route is also available for leading researchers who will be conducting solo research. You will need to be sponsored by an endorsed funder with a grant worth at least £30,000 and covering a minimum of two years’ research. This funder needs to be UKRI-approved. While in the UK, you’ll need to spend at least 50% of your working time completing the grant project.

Finally, if you are not eligible for either of these routes, you may be able to access endorsement by having your application peer-reviewed by the Royal Society, the British Academy, or the Royal Academy of Engineering. Peer review does not require a job offer to apply. To be eligible for peer review, make sure you fulfill one of the following criteria:

    • You are a leader in an approved research discipline.
    • You are currently an active researcher.
    • You have a PhD or equivalent research experience in industrial or clinical research.
    • You have shown exceptional talent or promise in your field.

    Tech Nation

Get endorsement based on your contribution to the tech industry through Tech Nation. To make a successful endorsement application, you will need to show evidence of work that has advanced your field. This must be done through research that has been endorsed by experts and through founding or serving as a senior executive for a digital technology company. You may also be an employee for a digital technology company who is working on a new digital field.

Whether you can apply based on your promise or talent will depend on if you have conducted work that has been recognised as leading your field, or work that has shown you could be a leader in your field, in the last five years.

    Arts Council England

It isn’t only scientific researchers and leading figures in tech who can apply for a Global Talent visa endorsement. Artists working in film, dance, fashion design, music, and more can apply for endorsement from Arts Council England. The requirements for this arts and culture endorsement are listed below:

    • You can demonstrate recent and regular professional artistic output of excellent quality during the past five years.
    • If you are applying based on Exceptional Talent criteria, your work must be in demand internationally.
    • If you are applying under Exceptional Promise, you must be in the early stages of your career and be able to demonstrate that your work is in demand in at least one country.

Cost for Global Talent Visa Endorsement

Endorsement and the visa that follows are billed separately, so it is worth budgeting for both from the start.

Endorsement itself currently costs £561 , paid to the endorsing body when you submit your application. The visa application that follows adds a further £205 , payable once you’ve been endorsed. Together, that’s £766 in government fees across both stages.

On top of this, you will also need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge when you apply for the visa. This is charged per year of permission you’re asking for, up to the maximum five-year grant, at £1035 a year if you’re 18 or over, or  £776 a year if you are under 18.

None of these fees are refundable if your application does not succeed, and the cost is the same whether you are applying under Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise. A few endorsing bodies also charge extra for optional services, such as faster processing, so it is worth checking the specific body’s fee page rather than assuming every field works the same way.

If you are also bringing your partner or children, keep in mind that dependents pay their own visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge on top of your own costs, so it is worth working out the full family total before you commit to a timeline.

      Supporting Documents for Endorsement

The exact paperwork depends on your field, but most applications draw on the same core types of evidence:

      • Valid passport or other travel document.
      • Confirmation that you’ve paid the endorsement fee.

CV covering your professional or research career to date.

      • Personal statement explaining your work and why it meets the Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise criteria for your field.
      • Letters of recommendation, usually three for the creative and digital technology fields, or one to two from senior figures for the research fields.
      • Evidence specific to your field’s criteria, such as awards, exhibition history, publications, press coverage, or grant and academic post documentation.

Your references matter more than you might expect, so it is worth choosing them carefully. A strong letter explains exactly how the referee knows your work, for how long, and in what capacity, then ties that directly to the achievements your application relies on, rather than offering praise in general terms.

Any document not already in English will need a certified translation, and it’s worth organising your evidence clearly against each requirement, since endorsing bodies decide based on the papers alone, with no interview.

How to Apply for an Endorsement for a Global Talent Visa?

Each endorsing body described above has a slightly different application process. However, you will generally need to follow these steps:

      1. Confirm which endorsement route is right for your work and confirm that you meet its eligibility criteria.
      2. Gather evidence and documentation to support your endorsement application. This could include your job offer or job description, an updated CV, letters of recommendation, and evidence of work showing Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise.
      3. Submit your endorsement application online by completing the relevant application form alongside your supporting documentation.
      4. If asked, attend an endorsement review, where a panel from the endorsing body will ask you for more information about your work.
      5. Await the endorsement decision. This will take two to eight weeks, depending on the endorsing body that you use.

If your application is successful, you will receive an endorsement letter. You will then have three months to submit your Global Talent visa application.

      Applying with a Prestigious Prize

You can skip the stress of an endorsement application if you have received a prestigious prize in your field that the UK Government has listed in Appendix Global Talent. This fast-track allows you to receive a Global Talent visa more quickly, so that you can start working in the UK sooner. There are a huge number of relevant prizes. Head to Appendix Global Talent if you have earned a prestigious prize. Some of them are listed below:

      • Science and research: Nobel Prize, Wolf Prize, Turing Award, and the Breakthrough Prize.
      • Engineering: Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering and prizes issued by the Royal Academy of Engineering.
      • Arts and culture: Golden Globes, Tony Awards, Olivier Awards, the Oscars, and the BAFTA Awards.
      • Fashion: awards issued by the Designers of America, Council of Fashion, or major design competitions.

These prizes must be issued to you individually. Prizes for a collective or organisation will not make you eligible for a Global Talent visa.

Making a Global Talent Visa Application

Holding prestigious prizes or a relevant endorsement is just the start of the Global Talent visa application process, known as stage 1. You will need to complete a visa application (stage 2), showing that you meet the eligibility criteria and providing the necessary supporting documentation. You will need to submit your application within three months of receiving your endorsement letter, and without the endorsement being withdrawn. Complete your application by taking the steps detailed below:

      1. Head to the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website to download and complete the Global Talent visa application.
      2. Book and attend a biometric appointment at your nearest UK visa application centre. You will have your fingerprints and biometric photograph taken.
      3. Submit your supporting documentation.
      4. Pay the visa fee for your application to be processed. You will also need to pay the annual immigration health surcharge to receive National Health Service care while in the UK.
      5. Attend an interview if required.

With the application process completed, you will need to wait for Home Office officials to process your application. The standard application time if you make your application outside the UK is three weeks. This extends to eight weeks for applications made inside the UK. Complex applications, applications with issues, or Home Office backlogs can cause your application to take substantially longer.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and produce a strong application, you will be informed digitally and can travel to the UK. However, if officials reject your application, you will receive a refusal letter that will inform you of your right of appeal.
